Love - She Comes in Colors

Love is one of those bands that never had much commercial success, but whose reputation grew steadily after their heyday, the second half of the 60’s. Arthur Lee formed the band in LA after hearing The Byrds with the idea of merging their folk-rock sound with his R&B style. The result was a wide variety of music at different Cartesian coordinates on the folk-rock and R&B axes. (Did I mention my degree in math?) “She Comes in Colors” was at folk-rock = 9, R&B = 2. Add in harpsichord and flute and you get a song described as trippy, psychedelic or Baroque. Whatever the label, equation or chemical formula, it’s a little gem whose charm goes beyond mere hippy nostalgia.
